23 Advanced Control Systems Customers among the 100 ARRA Smart Grid Grant Recipients Automation and efficiency leader to support multiple projects to advance DOE Smart Grid Goals ATLANTA, GA, November 5, 2009—Approximately 400 companies applied for the $3.4 billion in smart grid stimulus funding; roughly 300 companies got nothing. Of the 100 or so organizations receiving ARRA funding, 23 are customers of Advanced Control Systems (ACS) -– receiving a total of more than $1.12B in DOE grants. Efficiency and automation projects were big winners among smart grid applications for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The technology to be provided by ACS in most of their applications involves these tools, including:
ACS’ core technology is the PRISM™ platform, an integrated suite of advanced real-time distribution management and outage management applications that has been enabling Smart Grid functions and systems installed in the field since 2001. The PRISM advanced applications allow utilities to implement self-healing feeders, reduce network losses and improve the power quality and service to their customers. Utilities also use the PRISM simulation platform for change management, training and evaluation of Smart Grid technologies, and coordination of the interacting technologies) -– capabilities that will become increasingly important as Smart Grid projects evolve and grow, nationwide. ACS Chief Executive Officer José Barbosa noted, “Our integrated Smart Grid technology suite is tightly focused on the top goals of the DOE’s Smart Grid Investment Grant program — such as optimizing assets, improving power quality and reliability, and withstanding attacks and natural disasters. We are excited about the opportunity to support our customers in these endeavors, working with them to play a major part in the vital task of modernizing and securing the US electrical grid.” While not every ACS customer named the company in their application, ACS was named as a technology vendor in multiple awards and will also support submittals representing potential new partnerships with other major utilities and technology providers.
