Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative Chooses the Advanced Control Systems PRISM™ SCADA/DMS Solution

ANAHEIM, CA, February 25, 2008 -- Advanced Control Systems, Inc. (ACS), a leading provider of smart grid automation and system solutions to global utilities, announced at the TechAdvantage conference today that it has been contracted by Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative (CCEC) to deploy the ACS PRISM SCADA system.

Looking to replace their former system with advanced technology, CCEC chose the PRISM system to improve the security, quality and reliability of electrical service to its customers, while meeting the developing demands of the current energy environment. Carteret-Craven, one of 26 electric cooperatives in North Carolina, provides energy and related services to more than 38,000 members in Carteret, Craven, Jones and Onslow counties.

Citing the successful implementations of PRISM at four other North Carolina electric cooperatives, including Rutherford EMC and Blue Ridge EMC, CCEC Director of Engineering Services Jake Joplin remarked, “The reputation of ACS and their products was a key factor in our decision. ACS has a superior track record of service and expertise in the industry and we were confident that PRISM would integrate seamlessly with our operating systems.”

Eric Fassnidge, staff engineer at CCEC, commented, “Together with our recent RTU purchase from ACS, the selection of the PRISM SCADA system gives us a modern, open platform that will enable us to operate effectively in today’s world while providing the flexibility to adapt the system to our future needs.”

The new system, comprised of dual redundant Linux® servers and Linux-based operator terminals in an open architecture design, also includes remote GUI consoles, historical archiving, data trending and DNP communication with the upgraded substations.

Jake Joplin concluded, “We anticipate that the PRISM system will provide increased levels of reliability and functionality while supporting implementation of open standards, including the DNP protocol.”  CCEC’s installation of the PRISM SCADA system positions the utility to take advantage of ACS’ full complement of distribution management system smart grid applications in the future.  The system is also MultiSpeak 3.0 compliant, facilitating the interface to a host of other utility enterprise systems.

José Barbosa, Advanced Control Systems CEO said, “We welcome Carteret-Craven to the growing ACS customer community, and we look forward to working with them to improve the security, quality, reliability, and availability of power for their membership.”
