IED Gateway One of the most powerful features of our Connex series is its capability to digitally interface with multiple IEDs such as voltage regulators, intelligent meters, smart reclosers or remote RTUs. The IED gateway provides serial communications to IEDs not otherwise capable of interfacing directly with the 100-baseT substation LAN. It contains the database for the data gathered from each connected IED. The IED gateway node module includes four communications ports to interface with up to four lines of intelligent substation devices such as legacy RTUs and various IEDs. Each IED gateway is capable of handling a total database size of approximately 4000 points. The IED gateway interrogates the IEDs and gathers the selected values. Since all specified IEDs are addressable, one port can be connected to several IEDs utilizing the common DNP3.0 protocol. Data from the DAC nodes and the IED gateway nodes is sent to the router where it is formatted into Virtual RTUs. For IEDs that have programmable databases (i.e., you select the data supplied to the DNP3.0 serial port), our Connex/NTU Configure application provides tools to customize each device's database to match the programmed database in each IED. When the SCADA master station receives the data from the master gateway/data concentrator node, the physical connections and any protocol conversions required to communicate with the IED are completely transparent to the SCADA master. |
